FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):
How far in advance should I book?
We can usually arrange bookings at short notice. The main limitation is often flight availability. We recommend booking at least 2 weeks before your planned departure date.
Is Brighton a good place to learn English?
Brighton is one of the most attractive destinations for learning English in the United Kingdom because classroom learning, everyday British life and language practice by the sea naturally come together.
How quickly can I learn English?
On a LISA! language programme, beginners typically start speaking English from day one and are often able to hold simple conversations with native speakers after two weeks.
Can I learn to speak English like a Briton?
Yes, this is possible. It is even possible to develop a British accent. Beginners (A1 level) generally require the appropriate course selection and a programme duration of approximately 12 weeks.
Will I improve my English if I only book two weeks each year?
Absolutely. The approximately 12 weeks often needed to achieve fluency can also be spread over several years, for example six years with two weeks of study per year.
United Kingdom or Malta?
Language programmes in the United Kingdom offer authentic British English, a wide variety of cities and a rich linguistic culture. Malta offers an English-speaking island environment, short distances and learning under the Mediterranean sun.
Is there a similar language programme elsewhere in England?
Programmes in Bournemouth and Cambridge are often considered comparable to Brighton. Bournemouth is particularly known for its wide golden sandy beach.
There are so many options – how do I choose?
LISA! Study abroad specialises in matching participants with the right course, accommodation, destination and country for their individual goals and stage of life. We are happy to prepare a personalised recommendation.
How much does a quotation cost?
Our quotations are individually prepared and tailored to each participant. Every proposal is unique, free of charge and without obligation.
When do I have to pay?
A deposit of 20% of the travel price is due upon conclusion of the contract, with a minimum deposit of £200. The remaining balance must be paid 28 days before departure.
What additional costs should I expect?
Flights, personal expenses and, depending on the accommodation selected, additional nights, transfers or meal supplements.
What happens on the first day?
On the first day of classes, you will complete a placement test and then be assigned to the most suitable language level.
Is a language programme also suitable for solo travellers?
Yes. As with all our adult language programmes, most participants travel to Brighton on their own and meet interesting people from around the world from the very first day.
Who will I meet?
International participants from across Europe and from a wide range of age groups.
Are bed linen and towels provided?
Host families provide both bed linen and towels. In some residences and studios, bed linen is provided, but participants should bring their own towels.
-
When do classes take place?
Depending on language level and scheduling, lessons take place on a rotating basis in the mornings and afternoons.
-
Can I book the language course without accommodation?
Yes. We will be happy to provide the course price without accommodation on request.
Are these programmes suitable for teenagers?
The information on this page is intended for adults. Independent teenagers aged 16 and 17 may participate in selected programmes. Information about supervised programmes for younger learners can be found in our Brighton junior language programmes.
Can I attend the same class as my travel companion?
Yes, provided that both participants have a similar language level.
What should I do while in Brighton?
A walk along the seafront promenade, a visit to Brighton Pier, exploring the Royal Pavilion, relaxing in local cafés and spending time by the sea are among the most popular activities.
Travel ideas
Travel Ideas:
A Tip from the LISA! Team: Once you have discovered the concept of a language programme abroad, it is hard to stop. A language programme broadens your horizons and helps you achieve fluent language skills in a way that is rarely possible at home. If you have already joined us for a language programme in Brighton, we recommend either returning or discovering new destinations. Bournemouth in Southern England offers a beautiful golden sandy beach and is therefore our recommendation for anyone who enjoys the South of England.
Those looking for a destination with a similar atmosphere to Brighton, perhaps in France, Italy or Spain, will find a comparable lifestyle in programmes such as Nice, Antibes, Palma de Mallorca and Salerno.
