Our English language courses in Newbury are designed for students aged 12–17. They take place during the summer holidays on the campus of Downe House School.

Location & Facilities:

Our language school is located approximately 15 minutes north of Newbury in Berkshire and about one and a half hours from London. In summer, this traditional British boarding school opens its doors to our international students from around the world. The school offers excellent facilities, including a cafeteria, a modern sports centre, a heated swimming pool, an assembly hall, and fully equipped modern classrooms.

Your teachers are specially trained to teach teenagers using the most up-to-date and effective methods. They deliver an outstanding academic program designed to help you become fluent in English quickly and confidently. After lessons, you can look forward to a fantastic, fully organized leisure program. Two excursions per week are included, with a weekly trip to London as a highlight. You’ll quickly make new friends from all over the world!

LISA! Study Abroad Language Courses for Students:

LISA! Study Abroad programs for students are carefully organized, thoughtfully supervised, and modern language courses for children and teenagers abroad. At our school in Newbury, your child will receive warm and attentive care. Our activity leaders and school staff are always available as contact persons. Course start dates can be found in the calendar section. During their stay, students live in a residence on the campus grounds. Accommodation is provided in multi-bed rooms with full board. Meals are taken together in the campus cafeteria. Our supervised language courses for students are high-quality premium programs.

English & Golf:

Learn to play golf together with new friends from many different countries. On two afternoons per week after your English course, you will practice your swing and improve your game. Training sessions are led by professional instructors at a local golf course.

English & Harry Potter:

After English lessons, you can dedicate three additional hours per week to your favourite topic: Harry Potter. On two afternoons per week, you will take part in special themed activities and learn more about your heroes. You will visit Christ Church College and the Bodleian Library in Oxford and explore the original film sets at Warner Bros. Studios. In the evenings, enjoy a Harry Potter quiz night, a Harry Potter disco, and, of course, Harry Potter movies.

A Typical Day – Newbury Language Course:

On arrival day, your child will be warmly welcomed at the airport by staff from our language school. On the first school day, students are placed into appropriate levels according to their English proficiency. During the school holidays, your child will significantly improve their spoken English skills. Our student language courses also provide professional preparation for final exams such as A-levels (Abitur equivalent) or secondary school qualifications, and help improve school grades. In the afternoons, our activity leaders and school team organize a varied leisure program. Weekends are reserved for half-day or full-day excursions. Please note that there are certain periods during which students are not under direct supervision.
