The historic town of Annecy is also referred to "the Little Venice" by its inhabitants. It lies proudly on the northern tip of Lake Annecy in the French Alps. The Thiou river crosses the town centre. It is full of canals and outdoor cafés with colourful flowers and always has a bustling atmosphere in summer. In winter magnificent ski slopes, well-marked cross-country ski trails in the breath-taking landscape and cosy restaurants await you in Annecy. The Venetian Carnival in spring and sommer festivals attract visitors from all around the world. Palais de l'Isle is one of the most popular sights. It lies on the island in the midst of the Thiou river and its medieval walls house today a museum. Canoes and sailing boats float on the crystal water of this big lake.
