Crazy and busy, San Francisco is host to more than 13 million visitors
every year.
The famous Golden Gate Bridge which crosses the Pacific, connects the bay with San Francisco. The city can be explored with the famous cable cars, which easily overcome the hilly landscape on which San Francisco is built. The San Francisco Shopping Center is one of the stops, offering 90 boutiques and the Nordstrom department store chain all under one roof. Fisherman’s Wharf in the harbour is also a popular shopping destination, with small shops selling all sorts of souvenirs and gifts. Pier 29 offers culinary delights from all over the world, including India, Africa, Thailand, China and Japan.
People from all over the world have made San Francisco their home: buy real Chinese silk and tea sets in Chinatown, the largest of its kind in the USA; try the Mexican burritos and salsa in the Mission District; experience the incredible atmosphere of the infamous Castro District or discover the hustle and bustle of Folsom Street.

Our school in San Francisco is one of the highlights of our programme!
It is ideally situated, has small classes and offers excellent value
for money. The school is situated in the heart of the city, at Union
Square. It was founded in 1938 and is probably the oldest language school
in San Francisco. It is managed by a young team with fresh ideas and
modern concepts.
The school has 12 classrooms, a computer room and a rest room for students.
There are course participants from around the world and the school achieves excellent success rates!

Sightseeing in San Francisco
San Francisco is one of the most fascinating cities in the world. Its
fantastic location, cosmopolitan atmosphere and famous attractions
such as the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz and the fabulous Cable Cars
make San Francisco unique.
The Golden Gate Bridge, which joins San Francisco and the Marina Peninsula County, can be crossed by car, by bike or on foot. On a good day, you will
have excellent views across San Francisco and the former prison island of
Alcatraz. This used to be the most infamous prison in the USA and prisoners
were kept there for an average of 10 years, during which time they were
not allowed to read newspapers, listen to the radio or watch TV. The
water temperature combined with the treacherous currents made it impossible
for prisoners to break out. Today, you can visit the island by boat – please
pre-book your tickets as the trips are very popular.
Chinatown in San Francisco gives you the impression that you really are on a different
continent – as soon as you step into Chinatown, you will feel like
you are in Shanghai or Hongkong. The area, which was destroyed in an earthquake
in 1906, has since been rebuilt and offers a multitude of souvenir shops,
herbalists, snack bars, restaurants, temples and multi-coloured houses.
San Francisco’s nightlife is very colourful and varied. From pop
to punk, from musicals to opera or classical music – you will find
everything. North Beach or Haight- Ashbury and Filmore are home to countless
pubs and bars.

Accommodation
Residence 1 (Ansonia): Accommodation in central location near Union Square (famous for Cable Cars). Double room (DR) or single room (SR) with breakfast (B&B),
shared bath rooms / WC. Ensuite bath room / WC can be booked for an additional
fee. The rooms are equipped with a TV, telephone, and fridge. WiFi and DSL-Internet access. No cooking facilities. Average distance from
the school: 15 minutes on foot. You must pay a cleaning charge of 25 US$
directly to the school.

Family: Single room (SR) or double room (DR) with breakfast (B&B) or half board (HB). Average distance from the school: 45 minutes by public transport.
Residence 2 (Cosmo): Central location near Union Square. Shared kitchen, 24 hour security, computer room. Can be booked as single (SR) or double room (DR) with bathroom/WC and breakfast (B&B). You can be upgraded to a higher floor, from where you have a wonderful view over the city. Rooms with DSL access, TV, microwave, small fridge. Average distance from the school: 15 minutes on foot. You must pay a cleaning charge of 25 US$ directly to the school.

Exam Courses
At our language school in San Francisco, we offer the following exam preparation courses: Preparation for the Cambridge Certificate (FCE, CAE) and TOEFL und TOEIC.
Bitte beachten Sie:
- You can only take this courses if your English is at a lower intermediate level (FCE: A2; CAE: B2; TOEFL: B1; TOEIC: B2). Enrolment onto the preparation course is subject to a grading test before the course starts.
- The exams normally take place in the last week of the course, therefore we can only offer limited teaching in that week.
- You can register for the TOEFL and TOEIC exams beforehand on the internet.
TOEFL: The exam date must be booked at least 3 months in advance at www.ets.org/toefl
TOEIC: Registration for the exam must be completed at least 3 weeks in advance at www.ets.org/toeic - You must pay the exam fee while in San Francisco. Please consult the table regarding how much the exam fee will cost.
- Cambridge Certificates: You will find dates of the written papers (papers 1-3) in the table. According to our previous experience, we have found that the oral exams (papers 4-5) mostly take place a week after the end of the course. which is why the prices may include an extra week’s accommodation. As it is possible that the dates may be postponed, we recommend that you opt for a flexible flight reservation.
