Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen offers the chance to learn Spanish and make use of the beach, sea and the fabulous weather at the same time. This friendly idyllic town is right by the turquoise Caribbean with its typical narrow shopping streets and small corner shops. The former fishing village has taken on modern influences and yet kept its traditional customs - an ideal environment to learn Spanish and enjoy the Mexican culture.

The school

The LISA! language school in Mayan style is situated in the town centre, about 2 minutes from the white sandy beach of the Caribbean. Our school is run by a young international team, who will be able to instruct you about Mexican culture as well as teaching Spanish. The tuition is professional and very interesting. The atmosphere at the school is very friendly and informal – an ideal school for learners who appreciate the personal attention of the staff. The language school has modern facilities at the student's disposal. Tuition is given by professional tutors who specialise in teaching Spanish as a foreign language. Tuition takes place under traditional palm roofs called palapas, in the school garden or in air-conditioned classrooms.

The atmosphere at the school is very friendly and informal — an ideal school for learners who appreciate the personal attention of the staff. The school is functional.

Sightseeing in Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen is the perfect place to discover the Mayan Riviera. It is ideal for all kinds of water sports; the areas of Xcaret und Xel-Há with their reefs and lagoons are ideal for snorkeling and swimming. There is also a golf course in Playa del Carmen.

We recommend a visit to the temple El Castillo and the temple de los Frescos where you can discover the Mayan frescoes. The Mayan city of Cobá was built in the jungle and its main buildings, roads, and pyramids can still be seen today.
The main street of Playa del Carmen is home to various shops, hotels and restaurants. We recommend an evening drink here where you can sit back and relax.

Accommodation

Shared school-flat: Single (SR) or double room (DR) with shared bathroom/WC and a small kitchen in a flat with other course participants. Ensuite rooms can be booked for a small fee. The school is about 10 minutes away. Double rooms can only be booked from two people booking and travelling together.

Family: In double (DB) or single rooms (SR) with breakfast (B&B) or half board (HB). Average distance from the school: 20 minutes by public transport. Many families live within walking distance or cycling distance from the school. Bicycles can be rented depending on availability.

Hotel accommodation in Playa del Carmen:

Hotel Fiesta Banana***: This small romantic hotel is designed in a Mexican style. It is not far from the beautiful beaches of Playa del Carmen. The hotel has a small indoors swimming pool, a bar and a restaurant. You can book a single (SR), double room (D) or a triple room (TR) on a bed and breakfast basis (B&B). All rooms have either a balcony or a patio. All rooms are equipped with ensuite bath/WC, cable TV, safe and air conditioning. Children up to the age of 12 years old, accompanied by two adults, can stay for free. Distance from the school: 5 minutes on foot.

Hotel Playa del Karma***: This inviting hotel is right in the middle of Playa del Carmen’s town centre. The hotel has a swimming pool, a palm garden, well-furnished rooms as well as a spa area, for those who value relaxation, where body and mind can become one. The rooms are decorated in a typically Caribbean-Mexican style and are equipped with TV, minibar, ceiling fan and, like all other rooms, ensuite. You can book either a single (SR), double room (D) or a triple room (TR) with breakfast (B&B). Distance to the school: 5 minutes on foot.

Hotel Steffens Casa Blanca*: This small comfortable hotel is designed in a Mexican style and is under German management. The hotel has a green garden with tropical plants. Double rooms (DR) or single rooms (SR) may be booked. All rooms are equipped with ensuite bath/WC, cable TV, patio or balcony as well as a kitchenette and fridge. Distance from the school: 15 minutes on foot.

We recommend that you book a flight to Cancun. There is a regular bus service from Cancun airport to Playa del Carmen. Please note that the last bus will depart from the airport at 11:30 pm. Alternatively, you can book the school’s transfer service. For further information and advice, please contact our staff.
