Sydney in Australia is a cosmopolitan city with a dazzling night life. The Australian metropolis has 3.7 million inhabitants and is home to the world-famous Sydney Opera House. The imposing building with the marvellous roof is one of Sydney’s landmarks located right by the Ocean, at Port Jackson. The Harbour Bridge, which is only a few steps further, was built to connect the northern and the southern coast of the city. From the bridge you can enjoy a stunning view of the harbour and the opera.
Starting at “Circular Quay” next to the Opera, you can reach Manly in only 15 minutes by ferry or by bus across the “Harbour Bridge”. With its white sandy shore and its Norfolk Island Pines in front of the promenade, “Manly Beach” is, together with “Bondi Beach”, probably the most beautiful beach in Sydney. Surfers can pursue their favourite passion, the beach is perfect for volleyball and the promenade is ideal to go inline skating. Besides Manly Beach you can also go to “Shelly Beach”, located in a magnificent bay with crystal-clear water. The nearby national park offers a large number of hiking trails.
Sydney has two beaches: Manly Beach and Bondi Beach, both of them are close to the city centre. When businessmen leave their offices, they go to the beach, meet their colleagues for lunch and watch the surfers riding on high waves.
Sydney is the meeting point of half of the world: Here you can eat delicious dumplings from Thailand, meat and vegetables from typical Chinese cook-shops, Italian Pasta or Spanish Paella. The Sydneysiders – as the people of Sydney are called – come from 200 different nations and have taken the best of their culture, their trends and their cuisine and are now living it up.
The school
Our first-class language school is located in a modern building. Besides a well-lit lounge, which is ideal for relaxing, the school also has 6 spacious and bright classrooms with air-conditioning and offers students the possibility to use a fridge and a microwave during their breaks. Our teachers are native speakers of English and are specially trained in teaching English as a foreign language. They have both experience as well as the passion to teach their students English. Our school in Manly is only 50 metres away from the beach.

English and Surfing
Our school offers students the possibility to take professional surfing classes on 3 afternoons per week right after their language course (standard course). One lesson lasts 60 minutes. The surf school is located only a few minutes away from the language school. The surfboard and the wet suit will be provided by the surfing school.
English and Diving
If you have booked the package “English and Diving”, you have language classes every morning from Monday to Friday. The diving lessons take place on 2 weekends. Basic knowledge of English (A2) is obligatory for taking part in the diving course. It is also necessary to be examined by an Australian doctor who decides whether you are physically qualified for diving lessons. The costs of approximately 60 AUD for this examination are not included in the package.

Sightseeing in Sydney
Sydney’s most famous attraction is without any doubt the Sydney Opera House which was opened in 1973 and has since then been the most photographed building in Sydney. Guided tours may not be cheap but they are worth every penny.
We recommend a visit to Pylon Tower which is home to a fascinating exposition of the history of Sydney Harbour Bridge (open daily).

Very popular is Darling Harbour. Here you can visit the Chinese Garden
of Friendship, which was given to Sydney as a present by its partner
city Guangdong. In this idyllic place visitors can relax within lagoons,
fish and lotus flowers.
The Strand Arcade, which was named after its famous model in London
and opened in 1891, was partly destroyed by a big fire in 1976 and 1980.
Today it is Sydney’s centre for fashion and design. It is home to the
most exclusive designer labels and jewellers, beauty salons and restaurants.
For an exciting night out we recommend a visit to Kings Cross. The former
red light district of Sydney now counts of excellent restaurants and
nightclubs.
If you want to relax you should go to one of the numerous beaches around Sydney. Manly Beach is one of the most beautiful ones. On the weekends young people meet there for surfing and barbeques. With the ferry it takes only half an hour from the harbour. The waves of Sydney’s beaches make every surfer’s heart beat faster.
Accommodation
Hostel: Single (SR) or double room (DR) with self-catering. The hostel has a lounge with TV, shared bathroom/WC and shared kitchen. Internet access available. Average distance to the school: 5 minutes on foot. The hostel is not available from 18.12.10 till 04.01.11.

Exam Courses
At our language school in Sydney Beach, we offer the following exam preparation courses: Preparation for the Cambridge Certificate (FCE, CAE):
Please note:
- You can only take the courses if your English is at an upper intermediate level (FCE: B2; CAE: C2). Enrolment on the preparation course is subject to a grading test before the course starts.
- The exams normally take place in the last week of the course, therefore we can only offer limited teaching in that week.
- You must pay the exam fee while in Sydney. Please consult the table regarding how much the exam fee will cost.
- Cambridge Certificates: You will find dates of the written papers (papers 1-3) in the table. According to our previous experience, we have found that the oral exams (papers 4-5) mostly take place a week after the end of the course. which is why the prices may include an extra week’s accommodation. As it is possible that the dates may be postponed, we recommend that you opt for a flexible flight reservation.
