Queenstown

Queenstown is located in Otago on New Zealand’s South Island and surrounded by majestic mountains. The city, which was built around Lake Wakatipu, is known worldwide for its various opportunities: whether you want to do extreme sports or winter sports – there are numerous possibilities. Surrounded by an overwhelming landscape visitors can go snowboarding, skiing, hiking or paragliding and enjoy the fascinating nature from a very special point of view. The natural and romantic beauty of the mountains, valleys and rivers served as a perfect location for Peter Jackson’s monumental film “Lord of the Rings” after the novel by J.R.R. Tolkien.
Queenstown is the most popular destination worldwide for people, who enjoy adventure sports and for those who are looking for an incomparable rush of adrenalin. Choose between jet boating, whitewater rafting or the highest bungee-jump in the world. As this lively city used to be a goldmine, Queenstown is home to many different cultures from almost all continents. This multicultural atmosphere is reflected in a variety of small restaurants and bars in the historical city centre, where you can convince yourself of the diversity of traditional cuisines and delicious meals.
Everything is possible in Queenstown: Italian pizza, Asian restaurants or an excellent modern cuisine with fresh fish and regional ingredients. The area is also very famous for its wine-growing region with first-rate wines such as “Pinot Gris” or “Pinot Noir”. Visitors may taste this delicious wine on special wine tours or in one of the numerous café.

There are fantastic shopping facilities around the historic “Buckingham Street”. You will find small designer boutiques and tiny shops where finest chocolate is still made by hand.
There are many places to enjoy the colourful nightlife of Queenstown, such as the “Steamer Wharf”, a big wooden terrace with traditional houses built on it. This is the meeting point for locals as well as for people from all over the world.
