This small town on the coast of South Africa is one of the most popular surfing locations in the world! Jeffrey’s Bay is where the surfing elite meet to demonstrate their wave riding skills.

The school

Our school is situated in a beautiful location near the beach. After lessons, you will be able to swap pen and paper for a surfboard! The world famous Billabong Pro Beach is within easy walking distance. The part of the beach that stretches along the school building is especially suitable for surfing students.
The small building has two floors and four classrooms. Two of the classrooms as well as the school terrace offer beautiful sea views. The school also has a small garden. All tutors have passed the University of Cambridge CELTA or a TEFL certificate. We recommend this school to course participants who would like to learn English intensively in small groups and in a relaxed atmosphere.

English and Surfing

Our school offers students the possibility to take professional surfing classes after their language course (Standard course) in a professionel surfing school. The classes take place in the afternoon 5 times a week. The price includes the surf equipment.

Sightseeing in Jeffreys Bay

If you ever wanted to take part in a surfing course with ‘real’ waves, Jeffrey’s Bay is the place to do it! The beach offers ideal conditions for surfing from beginner to proficiency level as different parts of the beach offer different kinds of waves. This makes Jeffrey’s Bay an ideal place to learn and enjoy surfing. For non-surfers, the miles and miles of sandy beaches are great for relaxing and sunbathing. The climate is mild all year round, and very attractive and sunny especially during the European winter months.

In July, Jeffrey’s Bay hosts the annual Billabong Surfing Festival. Named after one of the best surfing beaches in the world, the surfing elite meet up for this great festival in order to demonstrate their skills and have a great celebration.

The beaches around Jeffrey’s Bay are also ideal for horse riding along the sea and sand surfing. Kayak tours are also very popular.

We recommend a visit to one of the various national parks around Jeffrey’s Bay. Addo Elephant Park is home to wild elephants, lions and buffaloes. Schotia Park offers the opportunity to explore the bush in purpose built land rovers. During the spring months, you may also be able to see various dolphins and whales on the coast of Jeffrey’s Bay.

The school offers a very varied activities programme including surfing courses, kayak tours, horse riding trips and visits to townships and natural phenomena. You will also be able to take part in safari tours.

Family: Single room (SR) with half board (HB). Ensuite is available at a surcharge. Average distance from the school: 15 minutes on foot.
* Please note that due to the FIFA World Cup family accommodation is not available from 01/06/10 till 31/07/10.

Residence: Double room (DR) or single room (SR) with shared kitchen, shared bath / WC, cafeteria, bar and internet access. The residence is situated on the beach and is also home to travellers from around the world. A truly international atmosphere! Average distance from the school: 2 minutes on foot.

Hostel: Double room (DR) or single room (SR) in a hostel located directly by the beach. You will see the ocean from most of the rooms. Ensuite bath room / WC, shared kitchen, internet access. Very international atmosphere! Average distance from the school: 2 minutes on foot.

Please note:

• You can only take this course if your English is at intermediate level (FCE: B2; CAE: C1; IELTS: B2; TOEFL: B1). Enrolment onto a preparation course is therefore subject to a grading test before the course starts.
• The exams normally take place in the last week of the course, therefore we can only offer limited teaching in that week.
• You can register for the TOEFL and IELTS exams beforehand on the internet.
  TOEFL: The exam date must be booked at least 3 months in advance at www.ets.org/toefl
  IELTS: Registration for the exam must be completed a few weeks in advance at www.ielts.org, where you can find the registration form and further information.
• You must pay the exam fee while in Jeffrey’s Bay. Please consult the table regarding how much the exam fee will cost.
• The exam will not be in Jeffrey’s Bay!!
• Cambridge Certificates: You will find dates of the written papers (papers 1-3) in the table. According to our previous experience, we have found that the oral exams (papers 4-5) mostly take place a week after the end of the course. which is why the prices may include an extra week’s accommodation. As it is possible that the dates may be postponed, we recommend that you opt for a flexible flight reservation.
