LISA! Travel endeavours to supply our clients with the latest on entry regulations of different countries to the best of our knowledge. For up-to-date information, please phone our helpline on 01256 68 97 21 or contact the local embassy or consulate for your country of destination. Please note that for entry into many countries, your passport must still be valid for at least 6 months upon leaving the country.

USA

When going for a language course to the USA, you will need a particular visa for entry if you are studying for more than 18 hours a week, which is the ‘F1 Student Visa’. This visa allows you to stay around 30 days altogether before or after the language course. However, you may not need a visa if your course offers less than 18 hours a week, if you do not intend to spend more than 90 days in the USA and if you possess a valid return ticket that does not go to Canada, Mexico or the Caribbean. You must also have a valid passport. We recommend that you first apply for a language course 8 weeks before you intend to start the course in order to allow sufficient time for visa application. To apply for a visa to the USA, you must make an appointment with the US Embassy in London (please see www.usembassy.org.uk for further details).
Also, student visa applicants must, some time before their appointment at the embassy, register on www.fmjfee.com and pay the 200 $ SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) fee and there is an additional 100$ to pay for the visa itself. For further information, please contact the US Embassy on their website (www.usembassy.org.uk) or contact our help line. Please note that you will need travel insurance upon entry too.
Please note that, as from 12/01/09, travellers who do not require a visa will need an electronic ESTA-authorisation before entering the USA, which is valid for 2 years and can be obtained from the website http://esta.cbp.dhs.gov.
