In the South-East of the Sunshine State of Florida, Fort Lauderdale has 24 miles of beautiful sandy beaches along the Atlantic coast, a paradise for holiday makers. Named the "Venice of the North" due to its numerous canals and waterways, Fort Lauderdale, Florida has a lot to offer: sunbathing, tennis, diving, sailing, windsurfing, etc. Five of the seven beaches have been awarded the European Blue Flag.
Enjoy the beach by water taxi, a yellow water bus or in a horse-drawn carriage. The Museum of Arts is well worth a visit, as it houses one of the best collections of art in the USA, including works by Dali and Picasso. Restaurants can be found on the Boulevard in the heart of the town, where you can watch some of the 40,000 yachts moored in Fort Lauderdale pass by.
Disney World nearby is definitely not to be missed, and shop till you drop at the Sawgrass Mill, which, over1.8 miles, offers 300 boutiques, cafes and restaurants.
We recommend you hire a car before your departure from home as hire cars in Florida can be very expensive.

The school

Our school is situated in the town centre, on the Boulevard, Las Olas. The beach is within easy reach, about 10 minutes away by public transport. There are cafes and restaurants, jazz clubs, museums and exhibitions, parks and waterways near the school. Our modern language school has 16 air-conditioned classrooms and a cafeteria. All tutors use fun, modern methods to teach English to the international groups.

Sightseeing in Fort Lauderdale

Known as the American Venice, Fort Lauderdale has almost 500 km of waterways. These, combined with its beautiful beaches, have made Fort Lauderdale a perfect holiday location and the safety and cleanliness of its beaches deserves to be mentioned too. The beach promenade is home to cafes, bars and entertainment. Colourful corals, exotic fish and breathtaking reefs make this place ideal for diving.
Culture lovers will find the Broward Center with its two theatres, the Florida Grand Opera, the Museum of Art and the Museum of Discovery and Science especially interesting.

You will find everything in Fort Lauderdale, from diamonds and antiques to reduced designer clothing. The Las Olas Boulevard is home to galleries and excellent restaurants, as well as street cafes. In the evening, we recommend a visit to some of the bars and clubs in the city centre, or simply a walk along the beach promenade.
Our school organises weekend trips to Orlando, as well as excursions to the NASA Cape Canaveral Centre or Key West.

Accommodation

Family: Single (SR) or double room (DR) with half board (HB) or a selfcatred single room (SR). Average distance from the school: 30 minutes on foot or by public transport.

Studio (with pool): Single (SR) or double room (DR) in a studio apartment with shared kitchen and shared bathroom. Average distance to the school: 20 minutes by public transport. Double rooms can only be booked by 2 people booking and travelling together.

At our language school in Fort Lauderdale, we offer the following exam preparation courses: Preparation for the Cambridge Certificate (FCE) as well as for TOEIC and TOEFL.

Please note:

• You must be at an intermediate level in English to go onto the course  (FCE: B1; TOEFL: B1; TOEIC: B1). Enrolment onto a preparation course is subject to a grading test.
• The exams normally take place in the last week of the course, therefore we can only offer limited teaching in that week.
• You can register for the TOEIC and TOEFL exams in advance on the internet.
  TOEIC: Registration must be completed 3 weeks in advance at www.ets.org/toeic
  TOEFL: Registration must be completed 3 weeks in advance at www.ets.org/toefl
• You must pay the exam fee while in Fort Lauderdale. Please consult the table regarding how much the exam fee will cost.
• Cambridge Certificates: You will find dates of the written papers (papers 1-3) in the table. According to our previous experience, we have found that the oral exams (papers 4-5) mostly take place a week after the end of the course. which is why the prices may include an extra week’s accommodation. As it is possible that the dates may be postponed, we recommend that you opt for a flexible flight reservation.
