Named after Christchurch College in England, Christchurch is situated on the east coast of New Zealand, in the southern end of Pegasus Bay, and is the biggest town in the Canterbury region. It is an ideal starting point to learn English and to discover the sheltered bays, sandy beaches, bush clad valleys and the rocky coastline of this region.

The town is characterised by a multitude of Gothic-style colonial and modern buildings, including the beautiful Cathedral. Home to a botanic garden as well as various parks, restaurants and pubs, Christchurch is a very multicultural and cosmopolitan town.

The school

Our language school is located in the city centre of Christchurch directly on Christchurch's most famous shopping street. Several restaurants and shops can easily be reached on foot. The school offers 10 air-conditioned classrooms as well as a student lounge where students can relax and play pool or ping pong. All teachers are native speakers and are specially trained to teach English as a foreign language.

Combination Course

You can book an 8- or 12-week language course (intensive course) and choose your perfect course location combination yourself. You can choose from Christchurch, Auckland and Queenstown. An 8-week language course consists of 4 weeks at each destination. For a two-location-course, the flight to the next course location is not included in the price and costs £ 87 per way. A combination course with 3 course locations lasts for 12 weeks with 4 weeks spent at each location. You can also choose only two cities and stay for 6 weeks at one destination. The 12-week course includes one transfer (flight or coach), each additional transfer cost £ 87 per way.

Sightseeing in Christchurch

Christchurch is a meeting point for young and old and is perfect for shopping and entertainment. The large green parks are ideal for relaxing.
We recommend a visit to the Arts Centre which is accommodated in the old university buildings, which is within strolling distance of Canterbury Museum and the Botanic Gardens.

The area around the Arts Centre is home to various pubs, cafes, galleries, theatres, cinemas and markets. There is lunchtime music every Friday and during the Summer you will find various artists performing in the streets.
We strongly recommend a visit to the International Antarctic Center which has been named New Zealand’s best attraction. You can experience snow, ice and your own antarctic expedition and it is open daily.
The river Avon which flows through the town is ideal for sightseeing by canoe.
We also recommend weekend trips to Canterbury and to the seaside.

Accommodation

Shared school-flat : You will live in a single (SR) or double room (DR) in a self-catering apartment together with other course participants. The flat has a kitchen and a private bathroom/ WC. Internet access and laundry facilities are available. Average distance from the school: 15 minutes on foot. You must at least be 18 years old to live in the apartment.

Family: Single room (SR) with half board (HB), full board at weekends (FB). Average distance to the school: 20 minutes by public transport.

• You can only take the exam courses from upper intermediate levels (FCE: B1; CAE: C1). Enrolment onto this course is therefore subject to a grading test before the course starts.
• The exams normally take place in the last week of the course, therefore we can only offer limited teaching in that week.
• You must pay the exam fee while in Christchurch. Please consult the table regarding how much the exam fee will cost.
